On September 2, 2025, the Iloilo Provincial Board discussed the proposed establishment of the Center for Mangroves and Marine Biodiversity at Central Philippine University during its 10th Regular Session at the Provincial Capitol.

On July 15, 2025, Greenpeace Philippines, together with local volunteers in Iloilo, organized a public forum at LS Café, Iloilo City. The event, dubbed ‘The Climate Crisis and Role of Community Response: A Learning Session on Localized Climate Impacts,’ brought together members of civil society, local governments, environmental groups, and academic institutions, including the CPU Outreach Student Volunteers Society (CPU-OSVS) who committed to the initiative.

Last June 16, 2025, selected faculty members from CPU-CAS departments of Life Sciences, Chemistry, Social Work, Languages, Mass Communication, and Humanities, joined by personnel from the Provincial Government Environment and Natural Resources Office (PGENRO) Iloilo, conducted ocular visits to areas of Leganes, Anilao, and Ajuy to establish the Center for Mangrove and Marine Biodiversity Conservation.

Project SIGLA: Suporta sa Isip, Gawa, at Lapis ng mga Anak, a community outreach initiative led by the Engineering Student Council – College of Engineering, was conducted on May 29–30, 2025, in the humble community of Bito-on, Jaro, Iloilo.

On May 31, 2025, CPU PASSC, in collaboration with ILIG Batiano, led a clean-up drive along the Batiano River in Brgy. Sto. Niño Sur, Villa Arevalo, Iloilo City. The activity focused on educating youth about the river’s current state and mobilizing them to take part in its rehabilitation.

In celebration of the International Day for Biodiversity on May 22, 2025, the Office of the College of Arts and Sciences Dean, the Province of Arts and Sciences Student Council, and the CPU Sustainable Campus Committee came together for a meaningful community outreach held at Katunggan Eco Park in Leganes, Iloilo.

In celebration of Earth Day on April 22, 2025, the Central Philippine University Republic (CPUR) joined forces with the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (MENRO) of Oton in a collaborative cleanup of the Batiano River, one of Iloilo’s vital but long-encroached waterways.

Last March 22, 2025, the Community Engagement and Service-Learning Center of the University was invited by the GT Mall Pavia to join the Earth Hour Activity. Aside from being a representative of the University at the event, Prof. Sarex Dalida Dipol, Jr. was also a resource person. He shared some of the University’s environmental rehabilitation and conservation initiatives.

The Bachelor of Early Childhood Education (BECEd) Gems celebrated National Environmental Awareness Month at CPU-Kindergarten last November 29, 2024. BECEd students in their fourth year who are currently enrolled in the course, Environmental Education (ECEd 4122), organized a tree-planting activity with the young learners of CPU-Kindergarten.

The year 2024 officially launched the University’s first outreach week, where various activities were conducted from December 2 to 6 by different units, colleges, and organizations, with most recipients coming from the adopted communities of CPU. Students, faculty, and staff are encouraged to organize and participate in various extension works and community engagement activities for that week.

On Saturday, November 23, 2024, the Central Philippine University Republic (CPUR) Committee on Social, Environment, Health, and Safety led an impactful environmental initiative in partnership with the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (MENRO) of Leganes, Iloilo, local government units (LGUs) from Central Philippine University’s different colleges and departments, and various student organizations and fraternities.

Last Friday, November 22, 2024, Central Philippine University received recognition from the World Wide Fund for Nature-Philippines and Coca-Cola Foundation Philippines for its active participation in addressing the dilemmas faced by the Tigum-Aganan Watershed. This watershed is the city and selected municipalities of the Iloilo province’s primary water source.

In a show of solidarity for environmental advocacy, the Central Philippine University Senior High School (CPU-SHS) Student Council took part in the nationwide campaign, Let’s Clean Up, Philippines 2024, in observance of World Cleanup Day. The event, organized by the Rotaract Club of Iloilo City, was held on September 21, 2024, with the goal of promoting community involvement and environmental responsibility.

On May 3, 2024, the Third Year Social Work Students of Central Philippine University, together with Prof. Sarex Dalida Dipol, Jr., Acting Director of Community Engagement and Service Learning Center (CESLC-CPU), Dr. Regina E. Samillano, Science Education Coordinator of the College of Education, and Dr. Lenny Rose P. Mucho, conducted an outreach activity in Sitio Nalo-uyan in Brgy. Sapao, Dumangas, Iloilo.

The aspiring third-year social work students conducted an outreach program entitled “FAITH Garden: Food Always in the Home” at Barangay Lanit, Jaro, Iloilo, last March 16, 2024, which underscores the importance of planting in everyone’s home. This program discovers the transformative impact of cultivating green spaces together.

In observance of the September month’s International Coastal Clean-Up, the College of Art and Sciences (CAS) joined the Iloilo City Environmental and Natural Resources Office with other representatives from different sectors of the community on September 16, 2023, starting at 6:00 in the morning at the Molo-Arevalo Coastal Area. This year’s theme is “#SeaTheChange”.

On Monday, May 10, 2023, a dedicated group of students, faculty, and staff from the Department of Life Sciences, Department of Chemistry, and the College of Business and Accountancy at Central Philippine University (CPU) conducted a tree growing activity at the proposed Tree Park in Brgy. Lanit, Jaro, Iloilo City.

On March 27, 2023 (Monday), the CPU College of Arts and Sciences conducted environmental rehabilitation activities in a selected part of Northwest Panay Peninsula Natural Park, specifically in the municipality of Libertad in Antique. Fruit-tree growing activity, mangrove growing activity, coastal clean-up activity and environmental stewardship literacy are environmental rehabilitation activities orchestrated in the area.
